Buyers Guide
When choosing your next bike it is important to know a few of the important specifications that you need to consider. Especially taking into my wife’s decision when deciding on the best bike for overweight female. Things such as the material of the frame, frame size, tire size, etc.
Specifications
If you’re looking for a bike that can support a high weight load it’s important that you look for bikes with steel frames. Steel can hold a larger weight capacity, compared to aluminium. Although the consequence of a steel frame is the added weight of the bike itself compared to aluminium. You don’t have to worry about the bikes frame bending over time.
Taking this point into consideration also look for steel rim bikes. This will stop the bikes rims from getting a flat spot. This is when the rim will bend and end up not being perfectly circular. This will affect the ride and make it uncomfortable.
If your going to be spending $200+ on a bike you want to make sure it has quality components. Parts such as a Shimano Drive train which all of the three bikes above come equipped with is the top rated manufacture for drive trains and gear shifters. Noticing the bike you are purchasing has one of these, you know the manufacture of the bike hasn’t cheeped out on any of the components and have thought about the rider.
Maintenance
After purchasing your new bike or on your existing bikes. It’s important to keep good care and keep up with regular maintenance to ensure your bike is safe. Basic maintenance tasks such as cleaning the bike should be already known.
However, one main maintenance task should be making sure the chain is regularly oiled. Having a dry chain can cause damage to not only the chain and cause it top snap. But can also ruin your drive train. The drive train of the bike is the one of the most expensive components of the bike so you don’t want to be forking out for a new drive train every 6 months.
Another maintenance tip is even if your not using your bike for a long period of time such as through the winter. It’s always important to keep your tires pumped up to avoid any cracking of the tire. As well as a short journey every now and then even if it’s just to the end of the road and back to avoid any of the components from seizing up.
