Logan Ranger District Proposed Action
The Logan Ranger District of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest is requesting comments on three alternative actions affecting the Millville/Providence Canyon area. The proposed action will affect 4x4 users specifically, but the long term ramifications have the potential to affect all OHV use in the area. Please take a moment to review the information below and submit a comment to the Logan Ranger District.
There are 3 DEIS alternatives:
Alternative A: A modified version of the original
Proposed Action.
Alternative B: Closure of several important roads to all
but administrative use.
Alternative C: Take no action. This option is required by NEPA, but it does not meet the fundamental requirements of the DEIS.
Either action alternative will affect OHV recreation, with the greatest impact to high-clearance 4x4 users resulting in change in desired experience, loss of mileage, and loss of viewpoint.
Alternative A still (as the Proposed Action) would close the Inspiration Point Road (FR126, spur to viewpoint over Mill & Spring Hollows) to full-sized 4x4s & UTVs. It should be possible to design the re-connecting route so FR126 could remain open to 4x4 & UTV users. (NOTE: if you're looking 3 or more moves ahead in this 20-year-plus chess game, it'll be beneficial to keep FR126 as a system road rather than convert it to a trail).
Alternative B would have a huge impact on access, and eliminate all public wheeled motorized access to Logan Peak, Providence Canyon above the quarry, Millville Canyon beyond Leatham Hollow, Inspiration Point, connection between Providence and Millville Canyons, Welches Flat, and connection between the Cache face canyons and Cowley Canyon / Herd Hollow / Marie Springs.
